Florence “Opera del Duomo” Museum Guided Visit (Code: OM1)The “Opera del Duomo“ Museum (Museum of the Works of the Cathedral) is home to an immense collection of 750 sublime works of art created over the centuries to decorate both the inside and outside of the Cathedral, Baptistery and Bell Tower, all housed at the “Opera del Duomo” and set in an enormous, brand new, breathtaking setting. A thrilling experience awaits as you gaze upon the works of Michelangelo, Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Luca della Robbia, Andrea Pisano, Antonio Pollaiuolo, Andrea Verrocchio, Arnolfo di Cambio, Ghirlandaio and many others.

Our tour begins in the great exhibition halls of a former theatre, home to the Sala del Paradiso. The installation here is a reproduction of Piazza del Duomo as it was in the 1300s, with the ancient life-sized façade of Santa Maria del Fiore on one side and, on the other, the three original gates of the Baptistery dominated by groups of sculptures, with the legendary glittering golden gates by Lorenzo Ghiberti, which Michelangelo called the “Gates of Paradise”, in the middle. On the monumental Gothic façade are 40 magnificent sculptures, including the one of St. John the Evangelist by Donatello, St. Luke the Evangelist by Nanni di Banco and the Madonna of the Glass Eyes by Arnolfo di Cambio, all set at their original medieval height: a fascinating space that recalls ancient places imbued with powerful spirituality.
We will then proceed to some halls that host two of the Museum’s most important masterpieces: the sublime and deeply moving Pietà del Duomo by Michelangelo – in which the face of Nicodemo who holds Christ is thought to be a self-portrait of the artist – and the heart-rending Penitent Magdalene by Donatello.
The tour continues on the first floor along a lovely illuminated gallery where a surprising series of high-reliefs and 16 statues from the Giotto’s Bell Tower are located, including the famous prophets Jeremy and Abacuc by Donatello.
We will then visit the amazing Sala della Cupola, home to wooden models of the dome dating to the 1400s and the Lanterna by Filippo Brunelleschi and then the Galleria delle Cantorie, amazing sculptures by Donatello and Luca della Robbia.
The last stop of the visit is the Gallery of the Silver Altar, home to the Altar of St. John and the Cross, which contains a fragment of the Christ Cross. They are masterpieces of medieval and renaissance crafted in silver that belonged to the treasury of the Baptistery and such greats as Antonio del Pollaiolo and Andrea Verrocchio, among others, worked on them. Those who desire to do so may go up to the panoramic terrace to get a close-up look at the magnificent Brunelleschi’s Dome, keeping the unforgettable memory of an exceptional emotional experience in the heart of one of the most beautiful cities in the world!
After the tour has ended, feel free to remain in the museum and maybe take a break in the pleasant Caffetteria.
PLEASE NOTE: Your ticket also gives you access to the other monuments of the Great Museum of the Cathedral Complex, which includes the Cathedral, the Crypt and the Baptistery and lets you climb up to the famous Brunelleschi’s Dome and the Giotto’s Bell Tower, to enjoy amazing views of the city. Siena, San Gimignano and Greve in Chianti with Wine Tasting in a typical Winery (Code: 3)
Along the way that will lead us to Siena, the first emotion is the enchanting view of Monteriggioni from the panoramic windows of the bus: the amazing spectacle of a small medieval village enclosed by its famous walls, which remained standing to this day.

Upon arrival in Siena, we meet the local guide, at our disposal for two hours, who takes us ona comprehensive guided tour of the historic center, starting from the famous Basilica of San Domenico (inside visit), a jewel of Renaissance art built in the 13th century and dedicated to St. Catherine of Siena, of which preserves a relic.
We will walk along the narrow medieval streets of the city, flanked by splendid palaces and historic shops, until we reach the spectacular Cathedral of the 12th century, of which we can admire the magnificent architecture and the splendor of the polychrome marbles.
The tour continues then with the visit of the Museum and Oratory of a Contrada*(exclusive opening), where we can experience the atmosphere of the authentic and most intimate soul of the town.
The“Contrade”(districts into which the city is divided) are the real core of local social life, where inhabitants of each district compete with each other, as they devote themselves to the preparation of the famous Palio horse-race. The Museum of a ”Contrada”, as well as its Oratory, is therefore the heart of the district. It is an intimate and secret place containing historical documents and wonderful relics of the famous Palio, as well as magnificent works of art which are normally not disclosed to the public.
The guided tour of Siena ends in its most beautiful square, Piazza del Campo, of which the Palazzo Pubblico (Town Hall) is the focal point. Free time to continue exploring the city and for lunch (not included).
In the afternoon we reach San Gimignano, a small and world famous walled town located on a hilltop, which remained intact through the centuries, renowned for its tall towers, wonderful frescoes and many other valuable works of art: here we will be led until the heart of the historical center, where to have free time at disposal for its fascinating discovery.
In the evening, crossing the gently Chianti rolling hills, we will arrive to a small and typical Winery where, after a short walk in the ancient vineyards, we will visit the suggestive barrique room and taste 4 fantastic wines, sampling also locally produced zero food miles. Finally, we will stop in the picturesque village of Greve in Chianti, to admire its famous main square flanked by arcades and browse through the local artisan shops, to end a memorable experience in the heart of Tuscany.
* When the Museum and the Oratory of the Contrada are not accessible, will be replaced with the interior visit of the Cathedral or another site of particular historic and cultural interest.
